The Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors has announced that they will be hosting a workshop focused on enrollment and budget matters on April 11. The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be held at the VCU College of Health Professions, located at 900 E. Leigh St. The public will have the opportunity to view a livestream of the open session video conference at mssvideo.vcu.edu/BOV.

According to the article, senior administration at VCU will provide updates on enrollment and present an overview of the university’s budget during the workshop. The university’s budget will be discussed in terms of how resources are being utilized to promote VCU’s success and value, as well as potential actions regarding undergraduate tuition and fees.

In a statement, VCU senior leaders expressed their commitment to addressing inflationary costs while investing in innovative academic programs and applied learning to enhance student success and the value of a VCU degree. The proposed budget includes investments and costs that will be managed through budget realignments, expected state funding, and enrollment revenue.

The article mentions that tuition and mandatory fee increases ranging from 0% to 4% for the fiscal year 2024-25 will be presented. These proposed increases align with VCU’s Six-Year Plan. In the past, the university has taken measures to keep tuition and fees at or below inflation through actions such as holding tuition flat for in-state undergraduate students from FY20 through FY22 and providing one-time scholarships to offset increases in FY23.

The Board of Visitors clarified that no vote on tuition will be taken during the April 11 workshop. They have invited members of the community to share feedback on VCU’s FY25 Tuition & Fees Open Comment Portal. Public comments will also be accepted during the full board meeting scheduled for May 10 before any decisions are made regarding tuition increases and the university’s budget.

Individuals interested in offering public comments during the workshop on April 11 are required to register by sending an email to bov@vcu.edu with their name, email, phone number, VCU affiliation, and any requests for accommodation. Speakers will be limited to three minutes each, with preference given on a first-come, first-served basis. Those unable to speak during the public comment period may submit written comments via an open comment portal.
