UC Berkeley has reaffirmed its commitment to free speech following incidents during an event held on November 10. The university stated that it will continue to comply with all relevant laws, rules, and policies as a public institution under state and federal oversight. It also confirmed ongoing cooperation with government inquiries and investigations.

According to the university, two violent crimes occurred on campus that evening: a fistfight related to an attempted robbery and an incident in which someone was struck by a thrown object. The administration reported providing detailed information about these events to various media outlets.

To protect First Amendment rights during the event, UC Berkeley deployed police officers from several jurisdictions along with contracted private security personnel. In addition, some campus buildings were closed and areas were cordoned off in efforts to prevent further criminal activity, maintain order, and allow the event to proceed without disruption from protests.

The university emphasized its intention to continue hosting speakers and events reflecting diverse viewpoints while ensuring safety and respect for all participants. “UC Berkeley is committed to continuing to host speakers and events representing a variety of viewpoints in a safe and respectful manner. We will continue to evaluate our policies and practices to ensure that open dialogue, the First Amendment, and the rule of law continue to be upheld on our campus,” the statement read.
