Today, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick held a meeting with Japan’s Economic Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa. The meeting focused on trade relations and economic collaboration between the United States and Japan.

Secretary Bessent expressed gratitude to Minister Akazawa for his ongoing engagement with the U.S. on issues of fair and reciprocal trade. He also mentioned his recent discussions with Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato in Banff, Canada.

During their conversation, Secretary Bessent emphasized the need to address tariffs and non-tariff measures. He highlighted the importance of increasing investment and collaborating on economic security concerns that affect both nations.

Bessent reiterated the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and acknowledged ongoing working-level talks addressing various economic issues.
