Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis on April 16 to discuss a range of international economic issues.

The meeting focused on cooperation between the United States and Europe amid ongoing global challenges. Both officials addressed the conflict in Iran, with Bessent highlighting actions taken by the Treasury Department to exert economic pressure on the Iranian regime through what he described as Economic Fury.

In addition to security concerns, Bessent and Dombrovskis exchanged views on their respective fiscal and monetary policy outlooks. They also discussed the importance of critical minerals supply chains, which are considered essential for both economies.

Another key topic was Ukraine’s reconstruction. The United States reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside Europe, the International Monetary Fund, and other stakeholders in supporting Ukraine’s recovery efforts.

The discussions underscore ongoing collaboration between U.S. and European leaders as they navigate complex geopolitical and economic landscapes.
