Today, Secretary of the Treasury Scott K.H. Bessent met with Türkiye’s Minister of Finance Mehmet Simsek and Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan in Washington. The discussions focused on the United States’ ongoing efforts to exert maximum pressure on Iran and its proxies.

Secretary Bessent emphasized the importance of addressing potential abuses within the Turkish financial system by U.S.-designated Russian actors and terrorist organizations. He also sought information on current and prospective measures by the Turkish government to address market volatility and economic uncertainty in Türkiye.

The meeting highlights ongoing cooperation and dialogue between the United States and Türkiye on critical international financial and security issues.
