Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with Her Majesty Queen Máxima and Minister of Finance Eelco Heinen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Apr. 19 in Washington. The meeting focused on supporting G20 priorities and advancing global financial literacy.

Bessent thanked Queen Máxima and Minister Heinen for their support of United States’ G20 objectives as well as their leadership in promoting financial literacy. This collaboration is seen as important for addressing challenges related to economic inclusion and education worldwide.

During the meeting, Bessent also recognized Queen Máxima’s work as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health. Earlier that day, she spoke at Bessent’s G20 Fireside Chat on Global Financial Literacy, which included World Bank Group President Ajay Banga and Japanese Minister of Finance Satsuki Katayama.

The discussion between Bessent, Queen Máxima, and Minister Heinen centered around strategies to further promote global financial literacy, particularly through initiatives led by the private sector.

Efforts such as these highlight ongoing international cooperation aimed at improving financial knowledge and access across different populations.
