Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with French Minister of Finance Roland Lescure on April 15 to discuss cooperation on critical minerals and other international financial issues. The meeting took place as France leads the 2026 Group of Seven (G7) Meetings.

The discussion focused on strengthening collaboration between the United States and France in securing critical mineral supply chains, which is a key topic under France’s G7 leadership this year. Both officials also addressed upcoming talks at the G7 and Group of Twenty (G20) regarding global economic imbalances.

Bessent expressed strong support for an upcoming G20 event dedicated to promoting financial literacy, emphasizing its importance in advancing shared economic goals. He also encouraged France to take a leading role within the European Union in increasing pressure on Iran to end what he described as destabilizing threats.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to address pressing global economic challenges through multilateral forums such as the G7 and G20. Future discussions are expected as these international gatherings continue throughout 2026.
