Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John K. Hurley is set to visit several countries in Europe and the Middle East, including Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Türkiye, and Lebanon. The purpose of this trip is to work with key partners on implementing President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against Iran and to strengthen measures that prevent terrorist groups from accessing the global financial system.
According to the Treasury Department, Hurley will focus on collaborating with these nations to enforce United Nations sanctions that were reimposed due to Iran’s failure to meet its international obligations. The meetings are intended to ensure coordinated efforts in restricting Tehran and its proxies from using financial channels for activities that undermine regional stability.
“President Trump has made clear that Iran’s destabilizing and terrorist activities must be met with sustained and coordinated pressure,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John K. Hurley. “I look forward to meeting with our partners to coordinate our efforts to deny Tehran and its proxies the financial access they rely on to evade international sanctions, fund violence, and undermine stability in the region.”
In Israel, discussions will center on how both countries can cooperate further in pressuring Iran, especially targeting Iranian regional proxies. In the UAE, Hurley plans to stress the importance of a strong U.S.-UAE partnership not only in supporting the pressure campaign but also in combating money laundering and terrorism financing. He will point out that enforcing strict illicit finance controls helps deepen economic ties between the two countries and supports the UAE’s status as a major global financial hub.
While in Türkiye, Hurley aims to address ways for both nations to counter regional malign influences and prevent sanctions evasion. He will also emphasize the need for effective enforcement of anti-illicit finance measures.
Hurley’s itinerary includes planned engagements in Lebanon as well.
