The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on Apr. 6 that The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (BNY) has been designated as a financial agent to support the implementation of the new Trump Accounts program.

The designation means BNY will manage the initial accounts and help develop a secure, user-friendly app for families to access and manage their Trump Accounts. According to the Treasury Department, this move is aimed at ensuring every eligible child can access a Trump Account quickly and easily.

BNY has partnered with Robinhood, which will serve as both brokerage and initial trustee for these accounts. The two organizations are working together with Treasury to create an app tailored specifically for this purpose. “The National Design Studio, in conjunction with Robinhood, is creating an intuitive user interface and user experience that allows families to explore their Trump Accounts with confidence and ease,” according to the announcement. Treasury said it will retain control over both the app and operations during this initial phase.

Treasury outlined its authority in appointing financial agents by referencing longstanding statutory powers that allow it to designate qualified institutions for fiduciary services on behalf of the government. The department emphasized its commitment to maintaining strict oversight, performance standards, and security controls throughout this process.
