Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent has announced several key appointments for senior positions within the U.S. Department of the Treasury. These appointments bring a wealth of experience from various sectors, including government, investment, and technology.

JR Gibbens will take on the role of Senior Advisor to the Secretary. He will provide guidance on policy and plans concerning strategic investments and a U.S. sovereign wealth fund. Gibbens transitions from his position at the Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital, where he was the first Chief Investment Officer for its credit program supporting national security. His career also includes roles at Capstone Partners and Trumbull, which he co-founded.

Gene Lange is appointed as Counselor to the Secretary. With over 25 years in the investment fund industry, Lange has extensive experience managing portfolios and advising on macroeconomic trends. His previous roles include Senior Managing Director at Key Square Capital and senior positions at Jafra Capital, Duquesne Capital, and Protégé Partners.

Derek Theurer will serve as Counselor to the Secretary focusing on domestic and international tax policy. Theurer comes from a background in both government service with roles such as Chief Tax Counsel at the Committee on Ways and Means in the House of Representatives, as well as private sector tax roles with Exxon Mobil Corporation and Business Roundtable.

Tyler Williams is appointed as Counselor to the Secretary to advise on digital assets and blockchain technology policy. Williams’ experience includes serving as Galaxy Digital’s Global Head of Policy and owning a financial services consulting firm in Washington, D.C. He also held significant advisory roles during President Trump’s administration.

These appointments reflect a blend of public service experience and private sector expertise aimed at addressing complex financial challenges facing the Treasury Department.
