Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent has announced new appointments for senior roles at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Tyler Badgley will take on the role of Deputy General Counsel. He has a background as the Treasury Department’s Executive Secretary and has experience as Senior Counsel at the U.S. Chamber Litigation Center and as an Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell. Badgley also served as Special Counsel for Senator Chuck Grassley on the Senate Judiciary Committee, contributing to Justice Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation. His academic credentials include a BA and JD from the University of Virginia.
Francis Brooke is appointed Counselor to the Secretary and was nominated by President Trump for Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Trade and Development. Previously, he worked nearly four years as Policy Director for House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, served as Deputy Assistant to the President, and was Deputy Director of the National Economic Council under Larry Kudlow. Brooke’s educational background includes a degree from Northwestern University.
Donald Korb is nominated by President Trump to be Chief Counsel of the International Revenue Service (IRS). With over 50 years in tax law, both public and private sectors, Korb is currently Of Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. He has prior experience serving as IRS Chief Counsel from 2004 to 2008 and has worked in various capacities within tax law practice. If confirmed by the Senate, Korb would be unique in serving two nonconsecutive terms as IRS Chief Counsel.
Rachel Miller will serve as Executive Secretary, joining from her position at Chain Bridge Bank, N.A., where she advised on its initial public offering. Her previous experience includes working with Jones Day in Government Regulation practice. Miller holds degrees from both University of Texas at Austin and University of Notre Dame Law School.
Christopher Pilkerton is set to become Acting General Counsel of the Department of Treasury following his nomination by President Trump for Assistant Secretary of Investment Security. Pilkerton brings experience from roles such as Acting Administrator and General Counsel at the U.S. Small Business Administration and White House Senior Policy Advisor among others. His education includes an MPA from Columbia University’s School of Public Affairs, a JD from Catholic University of America Law School (CUA), and a BA from Fairfield University.
