A joint team from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has received the Bank of Canada’s annual counterfeit deterrence award. Curtis Dolliver, Annie Lachapelle, and Philippe Sincennes of the CBSA, along with Corporal Mitch Thompson of the RCMP, were recognized for their work in disrupting a smuggling operation involving counterfeit bank notes and components entering Canada. Their investigation led to the arrest of a significant counterfeiter in Nova Scotia.

The Bank of Canada highlighted that this recognition is given to those who show strong interagency cooperation across provincial boundaries and contribute to protecting Canadians’ financial safety. The winners were presented with the award during the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Summit in Victoria on August 12, 2025.

“This award, which the Bank began presenting in 2004, recognizes the outstanding achievements of criminal justice professionals and educators involved in the prevention and deterrence of bank note counterfeiting in Canada,” according to information released by the Bank.

The Counterfeit Deterrence Award has been presented annually since 2004 as part of efforts to support law enforcement and educational initiatives aimed at reducing bank note counterfeiting across Canada.
