IBM unveils unified software for agentic governance and security

IBM has announced the introduction of a pioneering software designed to unify AI security and governance, marking a significant step in enterprise risk management. This new offering integrates IBM's watsonx.governance with Guardium AI Security, aiming to provide organizations with a consolidated view of their AI systems' risk posture.

The integration is intended to assist clients in securing their AI systems at scale, addressing both governance and security concerns. "AI agents are set to revolutionize enterprise productivity, but the very benefits of AI agents can also present a challenge," stated Ritika Gunnar, General Manager of Data and AI at IBM. She emphasized the potential consequences if these autonomous systems are not properly governed or secured.

IBM is enhancing its capabilities by integrating IBM Guardium AI Security with watsonx.governance. This development provides enterprises with a unified solution for managing risks associated with AI use cases. The integration supports compliance validation against 12 frameworks, including the EU AI Act and ISO 42001.

A collaboration with AllTrue.ai introduces new features to Guardium AI Security, enabling detection of new AI use cases across various environments. These updates aim to enhance visibility and protection within an increasingly decentralized AI ecosystem. Automated red teaming is another recent addition, helping enterprises identify vulnerabilities across their AI use cases.

"The future of AI depends on how well we secure it today," said Suja Viswesan, Vice President of Security and Runtime Products at IBM. Jennifer Glenn from IDC highlighted the importance of unifying governance with security to prioritize risks effectively.

Watsonx.governance now includes enhanced lifecycle monitoring for AI agents, from development through deployment. Future capabilities will include agent onboarding risk assessment and audit trails, expected by June 27.

IBM's watsonx.governance Compliance Accelerators offer pre-loaded regulations and standards from around the world to help users align their obligations with global requirements. Additionally, IBM Consulting Cybersecurity Services is launching new services combining data security platforms with domain consulting expertise.

These developments are part of IBM's broader suite aimed at accelerating generative AI impact responsibly and securely. The innovations align with IBM's commitment to providing comprehensive governance and security solutions for businesses navigating the agentic AI era.
