UC Berkeley graduate programs maintain high positions in 2025 US News rankings

UC Berkeley’s graduate programs continue to maintain high rankings in the 2025 survey released on April 8 by US News & World Report, showing the university’s strengths across a wide span of disciplines. The programs performed exceptionally well in fields such as social sciences, engineering, computer science, and business.

A diverse range of departments at UC Berkeley were recognized in the magazine's annual evaluation of graduate programs. Notably, the College of Letters & Sciences was ranked No. 1 in economics, psychology, sociology, and English. Meanwhile, the College of Engineering achieved top rankings in computer engineering, electrical, electronic and communications engineering, and environmental and environmental health engineering.

The Haas School of Business’ part-time MBA program tied for the No. 1 spot in the nation. The public policy analysis program at the Goldman School of Public Policy was also ranked No. 1. Other programs in computer science, public health, law, and education were placed in the Top 10. UC Berkeley School of Education notably climbed eight spots, now tying for sixth overall among U.S. education schools.

UC Berkeley had a total of 50 divisions, schools, and disciplines ranked in the Top 10 nationwide for graduate programs, with 19 others in the Top 25. The US News conducted evaluations of thousands of programs across a variety of universities this year, focusing on popular fields such as business, education, engineering, law, medicine, and nursing. These evaluations were informed by data from the institutions and “reputation surveys” to field experts.

Furthermore, the magazine evaluated public affairs, computer science, health fields, public health, library, and information sciences, and social sciences, entirely based on peer-reputation surveys. Notably, traditional hard sciences were not included in this year’s rankings.

Noteworthy rankings across various fields for UC Berkeley include:
