Clerical jobs hit hard by tech advancements from 1980-2015: Cleveland Fed report

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland has released a report highlighting the impact of information technologies on clerical workers in major metropolitan areas from 1980 to 2015. According to the findings, these workers were disproportionately affected by technological advancements during this period.

The report notes that smaller regions in the United States have been slower to integrate new technologies, resulting in a higher concentration of traditional clerical roles. However, as technology costs continue to decline and artificial intelligence advances, there may be "a particularly negative impact on clerical workers in smaller" areas.

The Cleveland Fed is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks that form part of the US central bank system. It participates in national monetary policy formulation and supervises banking organizations. The institution also provides services to financial institutions and the US Treasury while supporting community well-being across its district through research, outreach, and educational activities.

Serving Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky, and northern West Virginia with branches in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, the Cleveland Fed plays a significant role in maintaining financial stability within its region.
