The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned Algoney Hamdan Daglo Musa, a key figure in Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), under Executive Order 14098. Algoney is recognized for his role in supplying weapons to sustain the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF, which has resulted in significant casualties and displacement.
Algoney serves as the procurement director of the RSF and is closely related to Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, also known as Hemedti, who leads the RSF. His involvement in acquiring military resources has been linked to extending the war, particularly affecting El Fasher in North Darfur and other regions across Sudan.
"At a time when the United States, the United Nations, the African Union, and others are advocating for peace, key individuals on both sides—including Algoney Hamdan Daglo Musa—continue to procure weapons to facilitate attacks and other atrocities against their own citizens," stated Bradley T. Smith, Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. "The United States will continue to hold accountable those who seek to prolong this conflict and restrict access to vital humanitarian assistance at a time of famine and fragility."
Algoney's designation involves being a leader or official within an entity that threatens Sudan's peace or stability. This action results in blocking all property associated with him within U.S. jurisdiction.
The sanctions prohibit U.S. persons from engaging in transactions involving designated individuals unless authorized by OFAC. Entities controlled by blocked persons are also subject to these restrictions.
OFAC emphasizes that its sanctions aim not at punishment but at encouraging positive behavioral changes. For information on removal from OFAC lists, refer to OFAC’s guidelines.
