The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has announced the appointment of Michelle de la Uz to its Community Advisory Group. Her role takes effect immediately.
The Community Advisory Group is made up of leaders from nonprofits, community organizations, foundations, and anchor institutions. Its main objective is to provide the New York Fed, including President John C. Williams, with insights into the economic challenges faced by various communities and individuals in the Second District.
De la Uz's appointment precedes the group's upcoming meeting on October 8, 2024.
Since 2004, de la Uz has been leading the Fifth Avenue Committee as its executive director. The nonprofit community development corporation focuses on developing affordable housing, advocating for tenants, and offering workforce bridge services to over 6,000 low- and moderate-income New Yorkers each year. Her previous roles include program director at the Center for Urban Community Services in Washington Heights and Harlem, where she managed social services for supportive housing tenants with special needs. From 1995 to 1999, she was director of constituent services for Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez in New York and led her South Brooklyn district office. De la Uz also holds positions on several boards including the Local Initiative Support Corporation and co-chairs the New York Housing Conference. She served on New York City’s Planning Commission from 2012 to 2021.
De la Uz graduated from Connecticut College and holds a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University. She also completed a nonprofit leadership certificate at Harvard University’s Kennedy School Executive Education program.
