Cleveland Fed appoints Damjan Pfajfar to lead Center for Inflation Research

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland has announced the appointment of Damjan Pfajfar as the new head of its Center for Inflation Research. In his role as vice president, Pfajfar will lead a team of economists focused on studying inflation and will spearhead efforts to enhance the center's resources for researchers, policymakers, and the public.

Pfajfar joins from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where he spent ten years in various roles within the Monetary Affairs and Research and Statistics divisions. His most recent position was group manager in the Monetary Studies section. He also has experience as an assistant professor at Tilburg University from 2008 to 2014.

Pfajfar's research areas include inflation, macroeconomics, and monetary economics. He is widely published in top economics journals and has significant research experience in inflation expectations. His academic background includes a BS in economics from the University of Ljubljana, an MS in economics from the University of Warwick, and a PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge.

The Center for Inflation Research at the Cleveland Fed publishes research and several popular inflation indicators and surveys, such as daily inflation nowcasting estimates and the Survey of Firms’ Inflation Expectations (SoFIE). The center also provides educational resources through its Inflation 101 page and organizes events like the upcoming Inflation: Drivers and Dynamics Conference scheduled for October 24-25.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is one of twelve regional Reserve Banks that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington DC, make up the Federal Reserve System. The Cleveland Fed participates in formulating national monetary policy, supervises banking organizations, provides payment services to financial institutions and the US Treasury, and supports communities across its district through various research, outreach, and educational activities. The bank serves Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky, and northern West Virginia with branches in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.
