Federal Reserve District hosts webinar on closing US broadband access gap

The Fourth Federal Reserve District is hosting an online webinar on October 16, 2024, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM ET. The event will focus on the critical issue of broadband access in the United States.

The importance of being connected to the digital world cannot be overstated, particularly in areas such as employment where online job applications and remote work have become standard practices. Despite this, significant portions of the country still lack broadband coverage.

This webinar aims to address several key topics related to broadband access. Discussions will include the challenges faced by both rural and urban areas in getting connected, the development of digital skills, and the infrastructure needed for broader access.

"We produce indicators and datasets to inform the public, policymakers, and researchers about economic conditions, including inflation, employment, and risks to the financial system," a spokesperson from the Fourth Federal Reserve District stated. They added that their research helps inform both local communities and national policymakers on economic issues.

The Fourth Federal Reserve District covers Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Their resources are designed to benefit not only their region but also communities across the United States. "We represent and gather information from the Fourth Federal Reserve District," they said.

Their role extends beyond data production. "We supervise financial institutions, support American consumers’ financial security, and maintain the financial stability and payment systems for the US Treasury," they noted.

Additionally, they provide educational resources aimed at helping people understand economic basics like inflation. "Learn economic basics, dive into inflation, and get educational resources and games for yourself or to share with others," they encouraged.

In conclusion, this upcoming webinar offers an opportunity for attendees to gain insights into how broadband access can be improved across different regions of the country. The event underscores their commitment to supporting both local communities and broader national interests through research, education, and supervision of financial systems.
