Federal Reserve hosts webinar on long-term care insurance challenges

The Federal Reserve Bank has highlighted the growing concern surrounding long-term care costs in the United States, particularly as the population ages. With many individuals discovering too late that Medicare and Medicaid do not cover all expenses, financial protection against these risks is becoming a priority.

"We produce indicators and datasets to inform the public, policymakers, and researchers about economic conditions, including inflation, employment, and risks to the financial system," stated a representative from the Federal Reserve. The institution's research aims to provide insights into economic issues that affect local communities, the nation, and globally.

The Fourth Federal Reserve District, which includes Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky, gathers and represents information pertinent to these regions. These resources are intended to benefit both local communities and those across the United States.

The Federal Reserve emphasizes its role in supervising financial institutions, supporting American consumers' financial security, and maintaining stability within payment systems for the US Treasury. "We serve the American people as part of the US central bank," said a spokesperson. The institution supports economic education by studying conditions impacting communities and providing educational resources.

To address concerns about long-term care insurance specifically, an online webinar titled "FedTalk" will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The session will explore how Americans are preparing for long-term care needs financially amidst limited coverage from Medicare and Medicaid. It will also discuss the current state of private long-term care insurance markets and public policy responses to this issue.

Following the presentation at 3:00–4:00 PM ET, there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
