NCUA Releases Fiscal Year 2023 OMWI Annual Report to Congress

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) disclosed its Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI) Annual Report to Congress for fiscal year 2023, underscoring the agency’s dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. NCUA Chairman Todd M. Harper emphasized the agency's strong commitment, stating, "The NCUA has a deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility." He further linked this commitment to the historical role of credit unions in serving marginalized communities.

Key highlights from the OMWI 2023 Annual Report to Congress include significant achievements in various areas:

- 47.5 percent of the NCUA’s total reportable contracting dollars were awarded to minority- or women-owned businesses.

- 41.4 percent of the NCUA’s workforce participated in an employee resource group.

- 17.0 percent and 4.7 percent of the NCUA’s workforce self-identified as having disabilities and targeted disabilities, respectively.

- 6.3 percent of new hires were employed using the Schedule A hiring authority.

The NCUA's OMWI plays a crucial role in overseeing diversity and inclusion initiatives within the organization, aligning with the requirements of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. The office focuses on establishing and monitoring policies related to diversity and inclusion in the NCUA’s management, employment, and business activities.

In addition to its internal initiatives, the NCUA serves as the independent federal agency responsible for regulating and supervising federal credit unions. The agency manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, safeguarding deposits for millions of account holders across federal and state-chartered credit unions. Furthermore, the NCUA prioritizes consumer protection and financial education for the public.
