Morgan Stanley Launches Private Markets Transaction Desk

Jed Finn, Head of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, emphasized the growing importance of alternative investments like private market shares, stating, “Alternative investments like private market shares are only growing in importance as investors seek deeper portfolio diversification.”

Michael Gaviser, Head of Private Markets at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, expressed the company's commitment to working with clients to create lasting value in the private markets, saying, “As a larger percentage of capital formation and economic growth is occurring in the private markets, we aim to continue to work hand in hand with all of our clients to source and facilitate these opportunities to create lasting value.”

Kevin Swan, Head of Private Markets Solutions, highlighted the need for trusted institutions in the private markets, stating, “With more investors and capital entering the space, the Private Markets Transaction Desk puts clients in the driver’s seat to streamline complex transactions and address the needs on both sides of the market while working closely with the company.”

Morgan Stanley has launched the Private Markets Transaction Desk to cater to the increasing demand for liquidity solutions in the private markets. The desk, led by industry veteran Jeff Urban, aims to provide eligible shareholders and investors with a platform to buy and sell private company shares in the secondary market.

The new offering is part of Morgan Stanley's broader Private Markets ecosystem, which offers a unique suite of solutions for companies, employees, and investors. The Private Markets Transaction Desk operates with a company-centric approach, providing support for one-off sales of private company shares and access to investments not widely available.

The Private Markets Transaction Desk is already facilitating trades for clients and has established relationships with leading secondary marketplaces to ensure transaction execution quality. The launch of this desk expands the types of liquidity programs that Morgan Stanley's Shareworks equity management platform can support, giving companies automated solutions to manage secondary transactions while maintaining control of their cap table.

Morgan Stanley continues to invest in private company solutions to meet the needs of a growing market. The firm's focus on the private markets reflects the trend of companies staying private longer and the increasing importance of alternative investments for portfolio diversification.
