GE Vernova to Supply 2.4 GW of Wind Power for Pattern Energy's SunZia Project

GE Vernova's Onshore Wind business has announced a new equipment and long-term services deal with Pattern Energy to provide 2.4 gigawatts (GW) of power at the SunZia Wind project in New Mexico. The project is expected to be the largest wind project in the Western Hemisphere at over 3.5 GW total project size. This order is the largest single onshore wind turbine order ever received by GE Vernova.

Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, expressed his pleasure in supporting Pattern Energy on this monumental project, highlighting the key role wind power plays in delivering renewable energy and meeting the growing demand for power in the Western U.S. He also acknowledged the contribution of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) in driving significant investments in the U.S. wind power market.

Vic Abate, Chief Technology Officer of GE and CEO of GE Vernova's Wind business, emphasized the company's ability to deliver on its workhorse strategy in Onshore Wind, producing large quantities of fewer variants to ensure quality and reliability. He also mentioned the collaboration between GE Vernova and Pattern Energy in optimizing site layouts and performance.

The turbines that will be supplied for the SunZia project are GE Vernova's 3.6-154, which delivers the highest efficiency in the market and is designed specifically for the U.S. market. It is built on the back of the successful 2.8-127 turbine, which has over 200 million operating hours of experience. The 3.6-154 is the most tested and validated turbine in GE's history.

Hunter Armistead, CEO of Pattern Energy, expressed pride in expanding the mutual installed base with GE in North America to over 4 GW. He highlighted the collaboration with GE in designing an optimal site that maximizes turbine performance and fleet consistency. Armistead also mentioned that the GE turbines will be domestically produced, creating thousands of new jobs in manufacturing and construction.

The project will be supplied through GE Vernova's nacelle facility in Pensacola, Florida, and tower manufacturing facilities in Belen, New Mexico, Pueblo, Colorado, and Amarillo, Texas. This reinforces GE Vernova's focus on taking full advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act to revitalize American manufacturing.

GE Vernova's investment in wind technology, domestic manufacturing, and product quality is aligned with the country's efforts to decarbonize the electric grid and support climate change goals.

Overall, GE Vernova's collaboration with Pattern Energy on the SunZia project represents a significant step towards meeting the growing demand for renewable energy in the Western U.S. and accelerating the energy transition. With its workhorse turbines and focus on quality and reliability, GE Vernova is well-positioned to continue leading the onshore wind market in the U.S.
