Secretary Bessent supports Argentina’s economic reforms in Buenos Aires meeting

Today in Buenos Aires, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott K.H. Bessent engaged in discussions with Argentina’s Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo. Secretary Bessent expressed the U.S. government’s strong support for President Milei’s economic reforms and praised Minister Caputo’s significant contributions to their planning and execution.

“Argentina can accomplish a bright future for its people,” Secretary Bessent stated, referring to the country’s economic strategies focused on stability and growth for workers and the dynamic private sector.

Secretary Bessent acknowledged Argentina’s swift negotiations with the United States over reciprocal trade measures, expressing anticipation to co-chair pending discussions with Argentina, alongside the USTR, very soon. Further acknowledging Argentina’s international financial efforts, Bessent congratulated Minister Caputo on successful negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank.

The Trump Administration’s dedication to maintaining its role as “Argentina’s partner of choice” received particular emphasis from Secretary Bessent during the meeting.
