Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves on April 16 to discuss economic and security matters, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The meeting highlighted ongoing cooperation between the United States and United Kingdom in addressing global challenges. The discussion focused on efforts to counter Iran’s terrorist activities and secure vital supply chains.
During their conversation, Bessent said that the U.S. Treasury remains committed to “Economic Fury, leveraging all tools and authorities against those who continue to support Iran’s terrorist activities.” This reflects continued coordination between both countries on sanctions enforcement and financial measures targeting terrorism financing.
Bessent and Reeves also discussed progress by the U.S.-UK Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future. The officials emphasized “the importance of the U.S. and UK’s continued work to secure supply chains for rare earths and critical minerals,” underlining shared priorities in economic resilience.
This meeting is part of ongoing transatlantic engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation on market stability, counterterrorism, and critical resource security.
