More than 53 million Americans claimed at least one of President Trump’s signature new tax cuts this filing season, according to an April 15 announcement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The average refund has risen to over $3,400, which is an increase of 11 percent compared to last year.

The Working Families Tax Cuts were passed by Congressional Republicans in July 2025 and implemented by the Internal Revenue Service for this tax season. The initiative was designed to provide relief for middle- and low-income taxpayers and increase take-home pay for American families, workers, and small business owners.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, “Under President Trump, we uphold the foundational principle that hardworking Americans should be rewarded, not punished with tax hikes, and the results of this tax season prove it. The Working Families Tax Cuts provided meaningful relief to middle- and low-income taxpayers, increasing take-home pay and putting more money back into the pockets of American families, workers, and small business owners.”

IRS CEO Frank Bisignano said, “The Working Families Tax Cuts is delivering historic tax relief for working Americans. Led by President Trump, passed by Congressional Republicans in July 2025, and implemented by the IRS for this tax season, working families benefited from a federal government dedicated to working for them. Thanks to the legislation signed into law we are seeing historically high refunds and adoption of the President’s key tax initiatives at levels that surpassed expectations.”

Other highlights from this filing season include over six million filers claiming No Tax on Tips with an average deduction exceeding $7,100; more than twenty-five million claiming No Tax on Overtime with an average deduction above $3,100; over thirty million seniors taking advantage of an Enhanced Deduction averaging over $7,500; more than one million deducting No Tax on Car Loan Interest on new American vehicles; five million opening Trump Accounts (with about 1.2 million eligible for a $1,000 pilot program contribution); thirty-four million families claiming an enhanced Child Tax Credit; and over one hundred five million using a permanently doubled standard deduction.

Officials say these measures have simplified filing processes while expanding benefits across different segments including seniors and families.
