IBM and Pearson have announced a global partnership to develop new AI-powered learning tools for businesses, public organizations, and educational institutions. The collaboration aims to address the growing need for effective upskilling as artificial intelligence continues to reshape workplaces.
Pearson’s research indicates that inefficient career transitions and skills mismatches could result in $1.1 trillion in lost earnings each year in the United States alone. The companies plan to use IBM’s watsonx Orchestrate and watsonx Governance technologies to create personalized learning products accessible worldwide.
IBM will also assist Pearson in building a custom AI-driven learning platform that combines human expertise with AI tools, similar to IBM Consulting Advantage. This platform is expected to support growth by introducing new products and services while improving Pearson’s internal operations through enhanced workflows, productivity, and data-based decision-making.
As part of the agreement, IBM designates Pearson as its primary strategic partner for customer upskilling and workforce transformation. IBM’s customers and 270,000 employees will gain access to Pearson’s enterprise learning solutions such as Credly for digital credentialing, Faethm for workforce planning, and Pearson Professional Assessments—which administers IBM professional certification exams globally.
The two companies will also explore developing verification tools for AI agents. These would leverage IBM’s experience with responsible AI alongside Pearson’s expertise in skills development and credentialing.
