IBM announced on April 15 new cybersecurity initiatives aimed at helping organizations defend against advanced cyber threats that use frontier artificial intelligence models. The company said attackers are now leveraging these AI models to accelerate all stages of the attack lifecycle, making it easier and faster for them to conduct sophisticated attacks.
The rise of AI-powered attacks presents significant challenges for businesses, as traditional security systems relying on fragmented tools and manual processes struggle to keep up with the speed and complexity of these new threats. IBM emphasized that defending against such “agentic adversaries” will require security programs that are both autonomous and coordinated at scale.
To address these concerns, IBM Consulting is offering a new cybersecurity assessment designed to help enterprises evaluate their readiness for agentic-enabled threats. According to the company, this assessment provides deep visibility into security gaps, policy weaknesses, exposures specific to AI, and potential exploit paths. It also delivers prioritized mitigation guidance and highlights opportunities for improved automation in detection and response.
In addition, IBM introduced “IBM Autonomous Security,” a service powered by multiple digital agents that work across an organization’s entire security infrastructure. The service is intended to enable coordinated decision-making and rapid response at machine speed by integrating interoperable digital workers across various security tools. These agents analyze software vulnerabilities, enforce policies, detect anomalies, contain threats with minimal human intervention, and provide real-time updates on compliance posture.
Mark Hughes, Global Managing Partner of Cybersecurity Services at IBM Consulting said: “Frontier models are creating a new category of enterprise threat that is fast moving, systemic and increasingly autonomous. Meeting that threat requires a systemic defense. AI powered offense demands AI powered defense. That’s what IBM is delivering.”
IBM stated its commitment to supporting organizations as they face this critical shift in cybersecurity where resilience must match the pace of machine-driven attacks.
