The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is set to host a webinar focused on the challenges and opportunities facing the U.S. manufacturing sector as policymakers encourage the return of manufacturing jobs to the country. The event, scheduled for Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm EST, will examine research conducted by the Cleveland Fed into where manufacturers could find workers if production shifts back to the United States.
Manufacturing employment in the U.S. has declined over recent decades while growing in other parts of the world. Recent policy efforts such as the CHIPS and Science Act and changes in tariff policy have aimed at revitalizing domestic manufacturing. However, questions remain about how to fill potential new jobs created by these initiatives.
The discussion will address possible sources of new manufacturing workers and analyze which regions currently have established manufacturing clusters or have seen recent growth in manufacturing employment. Panelists are expected to discuss areas with strong potential for workforce expansion and strategies that employers, educators, and workforce development professionals can use to prepare people for careers in manufacturing.
Attendees will be able to ask questions following the presentation. The online event is open to those interested in learning more about economic conditions affecting manufacturing employment and workforce development across the United States.
