Global investment firm Carlyle announced a partnership with SBI PE Holdings, the private equity arm of Japan’s SBI Group, to support the expansion of private credit opportunities for Japanese institutional investors.

As part of this collaboration, Carlyle will receive an initial capital commitment from SBI Group to anchor the launch of a new multi-strategy private credit initiative. This marks SBI Group’s first significant move into the private credit market. The joint strategy will cover direct lending, structured credit, opportunistic credit, and asset-backed finance. The goal is to give Japanese institutional investors access to global private credit markets in regions such as the United States and Europe by leveraging Carlyle’s international expertise and SBI Group’s domestic network.

Brian Marcus, Head of Cross Platform Investing for Global Credit at Carlyle, stated: “We are pleased to announce this collaboration with SBI Group, an institution with deep expertise and a strong reputation in Japan. As the needs of Japanese investors continue to diversify, we see this as a great opportunity to support SBI’s efforts to bring global private credit access to their institutional clients. By combining our global investment capabilities with SBI Group’s extensive network, we look forward to creating innovative solutions and supporting Japanese investors’ long-term growth and diversification objectives.”

Yoshitaka Kitao, Representative Director of SBI PE Holdings, commented: “SBI Group is committed to driving innovation and expanding investment opportunities for Japanese institutional investors. Through this partnership with Carlyle, we are confident that we can deliver new value to our clients and further strengthen our position as a leader in Japan’s evolving financial ecosystem.”

Carlyle currently manages $203 billion in assets across its Global Credit platform. The company focuses on direct lending as well as other forms of creative financing solutions for approximately 1,000 borrower relationships worldwide.

Carlyle operates through three business segments—Global Private Equity, Global Credit, and Carlyle AlpInvest—and manages $465 billion in assets as of June 30, 2025. The firm employs over 2,300 people across 27 offices on four continents.

SBI PE Holdings is one of Japan’s largest private equity firms under the umbrella of the broader SBI Group. It focuses on generating long-term value through investments in next-generation growth sectors using both local knowledge and global expertise.
