Adriana D. Kugler will resign from her role as governor of the Federal Reserve Board, effective August 8, 2025, according to an announcement made by the Board on Friday.

Kugler has served as a member of the Board since September 13, 2023. She submitted her resignation letter to President Trump and plans to return to Georgetown University as a professor in the fall. The Board included the text of her resignation letter in its announcement.

“It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,” said Governor Kugler. “I am especially honored to have served during a critical time in achieving our dual mandate of bringing down prices and keeping a strong and resilient labor market.”

Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome H. Powell commented on her departure: “I appreciate Dr. Kugler’s service on the Board and wish her very well in her future endeavors. She brought impressive experience and academic insights to her work on the Board.”

During her tenure, Kugler was involved with several committees, including those focused on financial stability, Federal Reserve Bank affairs, board affairs, and smaller regional and community banking. She also represented the Board at the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies and visited most Federal Reserve districts.

Before joining the Federal Reserve Board, Kugler held various roles at Georgetown University such as vice provost for faculty and professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy. She previously served as U.S. executive director at the World Bank, where she received recognition from the U.S. Department of Treasury for her contributions to multilateral development efforts. From 2011-2013, she was chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor.

Kugler holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and joint honors degrees in economics and political science from McGill University.
